Position Description
The Student Services Department at "Confidential "Institute is seeking two qualified counselors. Candidates should be skilled in individual, group, and crisis intervention strategies. The counselors should be able to provide consultations to staff, faculty and students and implement college-wide referral services that network with community based services. Duties include but are limited to: Providing psychological counseling to individuals and groups of students to assist in understanding and overcoming social, emotional or personal; problems; developing and conducting study skills and programs for students with specific academic deficiencies as indicated through tests, interviews or referrals.
The ability to provide mental health consultation for faculty and staff is essential. Specialized training and experience in working with students of color, international students, non-traditional students, and LGBTQ students, assessment, the treatment of substance abuse disorders and disorders of character are highly desirable. College counseling experience is preferred, but not required and flexible hours are part of the position.
Job Components /Principal Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provide students with psychological counseling. Conduct psychological assessments and, if necessary, refer student to appropriate clinical services.
2. Provide workshops, trainings, presentations as requested by staff, faculty and/ or students.
3. Provide referrals for students if additional therapeutic services are needed and /or requested.
4. Consult, as needed, with university faculty and staff regarding identified students. Participate in the development and monitoring of supportive systems across the campus.
5. Perform other duties as requested, delegated or assigned.
6. Maintain awareness of available community resources and provide referrals as necessary.
7. Maintain thorough, up-to-date records and documentation and complete reports in a timely manner.
8. Facilitate regularly scheduled workshops and other activities in order to promote and enhance student personal and professional development.
Minimum Qualifications
A Masters Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or related field is required from a regionally accredited college or university. Candidates must be a licensed New York State mental health practitioner. A minimum of two years of counseling experience in alcohol/drug treatment or outreach programs is a plus. Demonstrated ability to interact and articulate sensitively with students, faculty, and staff in a multicultural and diverse community. Excellent organizational skills, interpersonal skills, problem-solving skills, team building skills.
